About
A salary calculator that shows its sources
EU Pay Concierge calculates salaries in all 27 member states of the European Union. Enter a gross salary, a net salary or an employer’s budget, and it shows the other two, with every contribution and every tax listed line by line. It is free, needs no account, and the amounts you enter never leave your browser.
Who makes it
EU Pay Concierge is an independent website run by a small team that publishes free reference tools for people living and working in Europe. Its sister sites are NonWorkingDays (public holidays), NextBreak (school holidays), Hourora (time zones and calendars), TravelEssentials, ConcertConcierge and ConvertThemAll. We have a professional background in human resources in multinational organisations, where comparing pay across countries is a regular task.
We are not affiliated with any government, tax authority, social security institution, payroll provider or employer. The site is paid for by advertising, which never influences the calculations or the guides.
Why it exists
Most salary calculators cover one country, show one number and do not say which rules they used. That is a problem for anyone comparing job offers in two countries, for employers costing a position abroad, and for HR teams answering questions from employees who move. A gross salary in Romania and a gross salary in France measure different things, because the split of social contributions between employer and employee is completely different. Our guide to employer cost, gross and net shows how large the differences are.
EU Pay Concierge was built to answer three questions consistently in every member state: what does the employee take home, what does the employer pay, and which rule produces each euro of the difference.
How the rules are sourced
Each country has its own module that implements that country’s rules: contribution rates, ceilings and floors, income tax scales, allowances and credits, special payments, and regional or municipal taxes where they apply. Every number comes from a source that is listed in the module and shown in the calculator, next to the line it supports. Across the 27 countries the calculator cites 273 sources, 164 of them laws, official publications or official guidance; the rest are recognised secondary sources such as Big Four tax summaries, used where an official text was not available in a citable form.
Each line of a result carries a confidence mark:
- Official: the value was checked against the law, the gazette or the tax or social security authority.
- Secondary: the value comes from a reputable secondary source, such as an accounting firm’s tax summary.
- Unconfirmed: the best available value for the period, which we could not confirm. The calculator says so next to the result.
Rates are always shown exactly as legislated, for example 2.25% for the Romanian work insurance contribution, never as a rounded or derived percentage.
How the rules are dated
Rules are stored as dated sets with a first and a last month. When a rule changes in the middle of the year, as the minimum wage did in several countries in 2026, the new value is added as a new set and the old one is kept. The calculator always applies the set in force in the current month. Every country page shows the date its rules were last checked against their sources. The most recent full review of all 27 countries was completed on 13 Oct 2026.
Anything a country’s rules include that the calculator does not model, such as private health insurance in Germany or regional tax scales outside Madrid in Spain, is listed next to the result under “not included”. We prefer to say what we do not cover rather than estimate it.
Languages
The calculator is available in all 24 official EU languages. The interface and the calculation labels are translated; the guides and these pages are written in English. Legal names of taxes and contributions, such as Lohnsteuer or CASS, are kept in the original.
Corrections
If a figure looks wrong, please tell us. Send the country, the salary and the situation you entered, and if you can, a link to the official source or calculator that gives a different result. We check every report against the source, correct the module and add a test so the error cannot return. Write to contact@stanese.ro or see the contact page.
